ABOUT US

With thanks to support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Hackney Church has undergone a multi-million pound restoration, restoring the church building, bringing our rich history to life, and making our spaces accessible to a wide range of new visitors, from Hackney and beyond. There’s loads to get involved with, so click on the links below to find out what’s going on.

A CATHEDRAL OF CREATIVITY

As part of our vision, St John-at-Hackney Church, the iconic Parish Church of Hackney, has undergone a multi-million pound restoration project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund in collaboration with minimalist architect John Pawson CBE (Abbey of Our Lady of Nový Dvůr/Design Museum), acclaimed visual artist Es Devlin and Thomas Ford & Partners. This work has improved the access to a much loved community heritage asset and created a breathtaking cathedral of creativity to be enjoyed for generations to come.

THE SPACE BETWEEN

Throughout the restoration of Hackney Church, a group of volunteer photographers, led by Katrina Lawson Johnston, painstakingly documented the work, as the church was made new. The result is an online exhibition, the space between.
